March 2021 Update on Firearms Licensing

March 2021 Update Regarding Firearms Licensing:

All License to Carry and Firearms Identification applicants are directed to mail in or drop off their New or Renewal applications.  Applicants should include a check or money order for the application fee, ($100.00 payable to The Town of Winchendon), with the application.  For a New applicant or a Renewal from another town or city, a Basic Firearms Safety Course Certificate should also be attached.   No processing will be initiated without the appropriate fee and course certificate (if applicable).

As previously stated, applications are available on the FRB website: https://www.mass.gov/how-to/apply-for-a-firearms-license.

Fingerprinting for New Applicants will be by appointment only and the firearms clerk will contact the applicant at the number provided on the application.  Further correspondence may be required regarding an application and will be conducted during normal administration business hours via telephone.

For licensees who apply for a Renewal prior to the expiration of their license (and who get a receipt acknowledging so), their license will remain valid until the agency approves or denies it. As a result, delaying the in-person portion of the licensing process will not prejudice these licensees.

For licensees who apply for Renewal after the expiration of their LTC, c.140, sec.131(i) states that for the purposes of c.269. sec.10 an LTC shall be deemed valid for a period not to exceed 90 days beyond the expiration date unless the LTC is revoked. Note this provision applies only to LTC and not FID Cards.
